Choosing the right product starts with the job it needs to perform. Reducing pressure from a cylinder or gas line requires a regulator, isolating or controlling flow calls for a valve, removing particulate contamination requires a filter, supplying gas at the point of use requires a laboratory fitting, and connecting equipment to a cylinder requires the correct connector, hose or pigtail. The gas, pressure requirements and purity grade of the application can then be used to narrow the selection within each product range.

- What is the difference between a gas regulator and a gas valve?
- A regulator changes pressure. It takes a higher inlet pressure and holds a lower outlet pressure at the setting you give it, even as the supply falls. A valve does not change pressure. It opens, closes or throttles the flow. Most gas systems need both: a regulator to set the working pressure, and valves to isolate sections or switch the supply.
- What do gas purity grades such as 5.0 and 6.0 mean?
- The number counts the nines. Grade 5.0 is 99.999 per cent pure and grade 6.0 is 99.9999 per cent. The higher the grade, the more the equipment itself matters, because seals, internal volume and surface finish all add impurities of their own. That is the point at which high purity and ultra high purity equipment stops being an upgrade and becomes a requirement.
- Can you help me choose if I only know my gas and my pressure?
- Yes. The gas, the pressure at the source and the pressure your equipment needs will narrow the range in most cases, and the purity grade and connection standard settle the rest. Send those and we will tell you which units fit. If none of them fit, we will say so rather than sell you the nearest thing.
