High Pressure Hoses and Pigtails

Choose the hose by its rating at the bore you need. The PTFE core hose runs from 300 bar at DN6 to 80 bar at DN25 and the stainless core from 360 bar at DN6 to 70 bar at DN25, so the stainless hose is the higher rated only at the two small bores. Pigtails are the fixed alternative for connecting cylinders to CM supply boards and TD switchover boards, 300 bar in the straight stainless version.

Common questions
- What is the difference between a hose and a pigtail?
- A pigtail is a short fixed connection between a cylinder and a manifold or regulator, made to a set length and shape, straight or elbow. A hose is flexible over a longer run and is chosen by bore and pressure rating. Both carry high pressure gas from the cylinder to the equipment. The choice is about the distance involved and whether anything has to move.
- Which hose is rated highest?
- It depends on the bore, and the answer changes across the range. The stainless steel core hose is rated higher at the two smallest bores, 360 bar at DN6 against 300 bar. At the larger bores the PTFE core hose is rated higher, 80 bar at DN25 against 70 bar. Read the rating at the bore you actually need rather than comparing the headline figures.
- Do high pressure gas hoses need replacing on a schedule?
- They are a wearing part, and most sites replace them on a set interval as well as on inspection, following their own safety regime and their gas supplier's requirements. We do not set that interval for you. What we can do is supply the same specification again, or a higher rated one, from the details stamped on the existing fitting.
