High Purity Cylinder Valves

Packed stem cylinder valves for high purity and corrosive gases, in a manual version and a pneumatically actuated version, built so the gas never reaches the operating mechanism. Rotarex.

Two choices. The D100 is the manual valve, packed stem with a 3.3 mm orifice, and the D131 is the pneumatically actuated packed valve for corrosive gases with a 2.8 mm orifice. Both are 200 bar with outlets to the national standard. For ultra high purity and semiconductor gases the D3 series on the UHP cylinder valves page is the right range.

Common questions

What is a packed stem valve?
In a packed valve the stem passes through a packing gland that seals around it, and the packing is what stops gas escaping along the stem. It is a robust arrangement and the packing can be maintained over the life of the valve. It differs from a diaphragm valve, where a diaphragm seals the gas away from the stem completely and there is no packing at all.
How do these differ from the ultra high purity cylinder valves?
By sealing method and by intended purity. These are packed stem valves, built so that the gas does not reach the operating mechanism, tested to leak rates of 1 x 10-6 and 1 x 10-5 mbar litres per second helium. The D3 series ultra high purity valves are tied diaphragm valves tested to 1 x 10-8, which is two to three orders of magnitude tighter.
What pressure and outlets do they take?
Both are 200 bar valves. Outlets are made to the national standard of the cylinder, so the outlet is specified by that standard and the gas rather than picked from a thread size. Bodies are AISI 303 or AISI 316L stainless steel, with brass and aluminium silicon bronze versions available.
