Choosing the correct connection starts with the cylinder outlet standard and the gas being used, as each standard assigns connection types to specific gases. Direct cylinder connectors are typically used where equipment is mounted at the cylinder, while hoses and pigtails provide a flexible connection to remotely mounted regulators and manifolds. Hose ratings run from 70 bar to 360 bar depending on the bore, so check the rating at the bore you need. The categories below provide further information on each product type, with individual product pages detailing pressure ratings, bore sizes and connection specifications. DISS connections are commonly used for high purity and semiconductor gas systems.

- What is a CGA connection?
- CGA is the Compressed Gas Association numbering system used in North America. Each number, such as CGA 580 or CGA 590, is a specific combination of thread, nipple and seat, assigned to a gas or group of gases. The numbering exists so that equipment set up for one gas group cannot be connected to a cylinder of another, which is why connectors are ordered by number rather than by thread size.
- What is the difference between CGA 580 and CGA 590?
- They are different outlet numbers in the same system and they are not interchangeable. The thread, nipple and seat differ, and each number is assigned to a particular gas or gas group. Rather than publish a gas by number table that could be misread at the cylinder, we ask for the number stamped on your cylinder valve, or the gas and the standard, and supply the connector that matches.
- What is BS 341?
- BS 341 is the British Standard for cylinder valve outlet connections, and it is the one you will meet most often on UK filled cylinders. Outlets are identified by number, for example BS 341 No. 3, and each number belongs to a gas or group of gases. Connectors in this range are made to BS 341 No. 3 and No. 4 as standard, with other numbers to order.
