Back Pressure Regulators
A back pressure regulator holds the pressure upstream of itself steady by relieving flow downstream when that pressure rises, the reverse of a normal pressure reducing regulator. They are used to keep a stable pressure in a pipeline, sampling system or reactor and to protect upstream equipment from over-pressure. Our range covers pipeline back pressure regulators in the pressure ranges most process systems need.

Common questions
- What is the difference between a back pressure regulator and a pressure relief valve?
- A relief valve is a safety device. It stays shut and opens only when pressure reaches a set limit, to protect equipment from a fault condition. A back pressure regulator is a control device, throttling continuously to hold the upstream pressure at its setting during normal running. A back pressure regulator must never be relied on as a safety relief.
- What pressure ranges are available?
- Setting ranges in this range run from 0 to 100 millibar at the low end up to 5 to 50 bar, and maximum inlet is 60 bar on the stainless steel units and 7 bar on the brass one. Units are supplied as versions covering part of that span rather than as one regulator adjustable across all of it, so the version matters at the point of order.
- Are they certified for pressure equipment use?
- Three of the four carry PED 2014/68/EU and ATEX 2014/34/EU. The fourth carries PED. The certification is listed under conformity on each product page. If your site needs a specific declaration for its own records, ask before ordering and we will confirm what the manufacturer supplies with the unit.
